Memory loss can be a very traumatizing thing especially for the affected person and their loved ones. There are two types of memory loss, permanent and temporary the type one develops depends majorly on the cause. There are a number of ways one can reduce memory loss or prevent it. These ways include doing things that are aimed at improving your brain fitness and generally improve you mental health. This means you have to reduce the number of things that negatively affect your mental health. Such things include alcohol; alcohol is known to negatively affect the brain. This leads to reduced concentration and loss of memory. It is important to limit alcohol intake so that it does not affect your brain fitness. Although alcohol is known to be good in limiting some diseases, when taken it excess it may lead to loss of brain function. This also means avoiding any harmful toxins that are associated with loss of memory. This means you should reduce the amount of processed foods you eat and try eating healthier. If you already have signs of loss of memory you can do some mental training to improve your memory. This include memory training, mental exercises that will help jog your mind. You can try things like memorizing poetry or taking up a foreign language. This is not limited to these two, you can do any thing that you consider fun that will help you improve your brain fitness. According to research it has also been found that volunteering leads to lower stress levels and leads to improved overall body health including mental health. Volunteering will help improve your brain fitness by increasing your communication skills and it will also improve your brain function. This goes hand in hand with socializing with people. Meeting new people, engaging in meaningful conversation can not be underestimated when it comes to improving brain fitness. This not only relaxes your mind but engages you in topics and discussion that help jog your memory and therefore help reduce memory loss. Another way to help reduce loss of memory is to go for variety, do not always follow a strict routine. For example you should not put a timetable such as Monday, go out for Chinese food, Tuesday, go for yoga then pizza; this will limit your brain. This means you will only be concentrating on the things on your routine without much variety. It is important for your metal health that you switch it up sometimes, you can be spontaneous and instead of going to the gym you can go swimming instead. Finally, you should always take good care of yourself. This means avoid taking any unnecessary risks that are likely to lead to brain injury. This means that if you are engaging in any risky activity you should always ensure you protect yourself. For example if you are going bike riding, mountain climbing or bungee jumping always wear protective gear such as helmets that will protect your head and brain.
